Anwar Splits Ministry For Enhanced Communication, Digital Focus

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a strategic reshuffle in the Cabinet today, emphasising the need to address communication and digital transformation more effectively.

The decision to split the Communications and Digital Ministry aims to provide focused attention to these crucial aspects of governance.

Anwar acknowledged the challenges faced by the government in effectively communicating information, particularly through social media. In response to criticisms, he highlighted the necessity to streamline communication strategies.

“The communications to impart and disseminate information have not been that effective or satisfactory, so there must be a focus,” he explained in response to queries about the reshuffle.

As part of the restructuring, the Communications and Digital Ministry has been divided into the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Digital.

Fahmi Fadzil, the current Communications and Digital Minister, retains his position as the Communications Minister, while Damansara Member of Parliament Gobind Singh Deo, former Communication and Multimedia Minister, assumes the role of the Digital Minister.

Additionally, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change has undergone a similar restructuring. It is now divided into the Ministry of Energy Transition and Public Utilities and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Sustainability.

Addressing the challenges of digital transformation, Prime Minister Anwar highlighted the evolving landscape with the emergence of new interests, data centers, and a growing focus on artificial intelligence (AI).

He emphasised the need to enhance the understanding of students at various levels and recognized the complexity of this task.

The reshuffle signifies the government’s commitment to navigating the dynamic landscape of communication and digital technologies, ensuring a more focused and effective approach to governance. The newly structured Cabinet is poised to address contemporary challenges and opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital era, reported Bernama.
