Anwar Supports Anti-Corruption Measures Amid Menara Ilham Investigation By MACC

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded the actions of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in investigating and seizing Menara Ilham in the capital, emphasising that the nation’s enforcement system does not shield those involved in corruption.

“Let the MACC carry out its duties, and regardless of anyone’s position… Otherwise, there will be criticism that only small fish (ordinary people) get caught, while the head (influential individuals) remains untouched. Let there be investigations so that leaders are not seen as protected by significant powers. It is the responsibility of the MACC to carry out its tasks and investigations,” he said to reporters, reported Bernama.

Anwar stressed the importance of allowing investigative bodies, including the MACC, the space to carry out their duties, even when influential or powerful individuals are under scrutiny.

He urged the justice and enforcement systems, especially those related to integrity, to set an example by boldly addressing significant corruption cases.

Anwar also called on all parties not to interpret or assume that the government has ulterior motives whenever there are investigations involving influential individuals.

“Do not interpret every time a big person (influential individual) is touched as if we (the government) have a hidden agenda. If a small person is involved, there is nothing (hidden agenda),” he added.

Anwar’s remarks were in response to the SPRM’s action in seising Menara Ilham on Jalan Binjai, Kuala Lumpur, which is said to be owned by the family of a corporate figure and former senior minister.
