6 States Flooded, 28,000 Displaced

The severity of the monsoon season is taking a full on onslaught in Malaysia, state machinery are overwhelmed with this years extend of the floods. East coast especially in Kelantan, roads have been completely blocked with many villages cut from support and assistance.

According to data, the number of flood victims evacuated in the six flood-affected states continued to increase to 28,310 compared to 25,938 people yesterday evening with Johor and Sabah being the latest states hit by the disaster. Kelantan remained with the highest number of victims of 17,466 people who were transferred to 89 temporary evacuation centres, up from 15,145 people who were placed in 92 yesterday. The other states facing similar issues are Terengganu with 10,103 people taking shelter likewise in Pahang 590 victims are being placed in shelters.

The latest states to join are Sabah and Johor each recording 169 victims and 83 victims respectively. However the situation continues to look gloomy as the weather report indicated continuous rain expected throughout the day in Terengganu in Dungun and Kemaman districts; Pahang (Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin); and Johor (Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.
