Royal Langkawi International Regatta Marks Its 20th Edition At The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club

The prestigious Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) is set to kick off its 20th edition at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club from January 15th to 20th, 2024. Serving as the first major international sailing event in the South East Asian calendar, this annual regatta aims to elevate Malaysia and Langkawi as prominent sailing destinations, fostering sports tourism in the country.

This year’s RLIR will feature 33 boats with over 250 participants, representing countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, the USA, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, China, and Vietnam. The competition will unfold across seven classes – Racing, IRC1, IRC2, Multihull, Sports Boats, Club Class, and Ocean Rover/White Sail.

Awards for each class include the esteemed Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy for Racing class, LADA-IRC Challenge Trophy for IRC 1 class, RLIR-IRC 2 Challenge Trophy for IRC 2 class, Commodore’s Challenge Cup for Club class, Langkawi Sports Trophy for Sports Boat class, and Malaysia Multihull Challenge Cup for Multihull class.

The Tunku Abdullah Sportsmanship Award will recognise the team demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship both on water and land.

The RLIR expresses gratitude to co-partner Belt and Road Regatta (BRR) and sponsors such as Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), the Kedah State Government, Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF), ALJ Global Sdn Bhd, Hypergear, Liquid Marketing Sdn Bhd, and Rainman.

Media partners including Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), TRAXXfm, HOMME, Sea Yachting, and Digital Vision Advertising (DVA) play a vital role in the event’s success.

Supported by the Malaysia Sailing Association (MSA) and World Sailing, as well as the Aseanarean Bluewater Alliance, the RLIR is set to showcase thrilling sailing competitions against the stunning backdrop of Langkawi’s scenic waters.
