Pavilion REIT Takes A Green Leap With Pavilion Loves E.A.R.T.H. Food Compost Initiative

Pavilion REIT has announced its latest sustainability venture, Pavilion Loves E.A.R.T.H., aiming to address environmental concerns and underscore its commitment to responsible corporate citizenship. The initiative kicked off with the launch of the Food Compost Initiative at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, offering an innovative solution for sustainable food waste management.

Pavilion Loves E.A.R.T.H. revolved around a comprehensive strategy to diminish Pavilion REIT’s environmental impact by practicing responsible resource management, reducing carbon footprint, and safeguarding biodiversity. The Food Compost Initiative, the inaugural project under this platform, aligned with Pavilion REIT’s dedication to the Environment, fostering Awareness, driving Renewal, inspiring Transformation, and cultivating Hope.

The Food Compost Initiative emerged as a localised and efficient response to the pressing challenge of food waste management. By diverting food waste away from landfills and converting it into nutrient-rich compost, Pavilion REIT aimed to minimise waste and shrink its carbon footprint significantly. This strategic move reflected the company’s commitment to embedding sustainability into its operational framework, steering toward a greener and more environmentally conscious future.

Key Features of Pavilion REIT’s Food Compost Initiative:

  1. Daily Collection: Food waste is sourced daily from Pavilion REIT malls’ supermarkets, food courts, and F&B outlets, including Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Mall, Intermark Mall, and Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
  2. Efficient Conversion: The Food Composting Machine processes 1,000kg (1 tonne) of food waste daily, yielding 200kg of nutrient-rich organic fertilizer suitable for all plants and 800 liters of water. This adheres to circular economy principles, diverting waste from landfills.
  3. Self-Sustainability: The Food Compost Machine is powered by solar panels, making it self-sustainable. Additionally, the water produced by the system serves a dual purpose by cleaning the loading bay driveway and watering plants.
  4. Water Harvesting: A water harvesting tank for AHU (Air Handling Unit) is located near the composting machine, collecting AHU water and rainwater specifically for cleaning the loading bay driveway.

Prominent figures present at the launch of the Food Compost Initiative included Pavilion REIT Board Members Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azahari bin Mohamed Kamil, Dato’ Choo Chuo Siong, Dato’ Mearia Hamzah, Madam Baljeet Kaur, Dato’ Philip Ho (CEO of Pavilion REIT), Dato’ Joyce Yap (CEO of Retail, Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn. Bhd.), and valued tenants, partners, and stakeholders.

Pavilion REIT Independent Non-Executive Director, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azahari bin Mohamed Kamil remarked, “As a responsible corporate citizen, we recognize the need to address food waste challenges and contribute to a sustainable future.”

To raise awareness, Pavilion REIT is offering sample packets of high-nutrient organic fertilizer to shoppers at the Concierge Counter, Level 1 of Pavilion Bukit Jalil. The initiative is estimated to prevent 365,000kg of food waste from landfills annually, producing 73,000kg of organic fertilizer and 292,000 liters of water collectively across Pavilion REIT malls.

This groundbreaking Food Compost Initiative reflects Pavilion REIT’s commitment to proactive environmental stewardship and positions the company as a leader in sustainable practices within the industry.
