Govt Announces Toll-Free Highways For Chinese New Year Travel

To ease the financial burden on citizens and ensure smooth travel during the festive season, the Malaysian government has declared toll exemptions for personal vehicles on Thursday and Friday in anticipation of Chinese New Year. Works minister, Alexander Nanta Linggi, announced the initiative, highlighting its alignment with the unity government’s commitment to safeguarding citizen welfare.

The toll exemptions, estimated to cost approximately RM42.99 million, will be applicable across all highways from 12:01 a.m. on Thursday until 11:59 p.m. on Friday. However, it’s important to note that exemptions will not extend to tolls at the country’s borders, including the Sultan Iskandar Building and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas.

Nanta emphasised the importance of motorists planning their travels in advance, adhering to travel time advisories from highway authorities, and ensuring sufficient balance in their Touch’n Go cards to avoid any inconvenience during their journeys.
