Thaksin To Be Released This Sunday

Former Thai Prime Minister who escaped conviction after leaving the country and living in a self imposed exile for more than 15 years will be a free man tomorrow after receiving a royal pardon from the King and the prison board granting him an early release.

Thaksin Shinawatra returned to his native land last year after a new ‘friendly’ government aligned to his daughter was set to be formed. He was charged and sentenced to jail and receive a reduce due to his illness, however the former leader spent most of his time in the hospital than a prison cell.

However, since receiving a royal pardon the prison board has now granted him early release six months ahead of his prison term, citing old age and illness.
