Opensignal Report Ranks Malaysia 31 Out Of 38 On Mobile Network Reliability

Opensignal has just published a new report that measures the reliability of mobile networks as experienced by mobile users across 38 mobile markets worldwide. In the latest report Malaysia ranked 31st among the 38 countries which the data is collected.

In a statement, Opensignal said, interestingly, the highest reliability experience score is 934 (out of 1,000) and Malaysia, while showing promise, demonstrates some room for improvement with a score of 790, which ranks the country as 31st among the 38 countries in which data was collected.

In Southeast Asia, Singapore leads the pack with a score of 867 points, outpacing neighboring markets such as Thailand with 841 points and Indonesia with 831 points.

Both Malaysia and the Philippines scored below 800 points.

This Global Reliability Experience Report measures to what extent users stay consistently connected to their mobile network and whether they can continue to do typical tasks like email, watching videos, and using navigation apps while connected to their mobile network. This is a new Opensignal metric that measures every aspect of the user’s experience of their carrier’s mobile data network: when it’s working flawlessly, when it’s working erratically and when you can’t connect at all.

One of the interesting findings from this report is that faster speeds do not always equate to improved reliability. Opensignal noted that download speed had a significant impact on the reliability experience until the markets achieved an average download speed of up to 25Mbps. The improvement in the reliability experience continued but at a much lower pace up to an average download speed of 50Mbps. Opensignal’s analysis reveals a saturation point beyond 50 Mbps, where the impact on reliability experience of faster download speeds diminishes significantly.

Denmark clinches the top spot globally for Reliability Experience, scoring an impressive 934 points on a 100-1000 point scale.

In the East Asian markets, Japan and South Korea are in a statistical tie for second place worldwide making them both global frontrunners, while Taiwan also places in the global top 10.

Australia makes it to the global top 20 with a score of 851 points.

Challenges faced by emerging markets in balancing network infrastructure with escalating subscriber demands.

Past 50 Mbps, faster speeds do little to improve reliability

Opensignal observed a diminishing influence of average overall download speeds on the overall Reliability Experience scores. Reliability Experience scores grow at a much faster rate for markets with average download up to 25Mbps, then the increase in scores continues at a slower pace up to Download Speed Experience of 50Mbps. After that threshold, the impact of faster speeds is not as substantial for Reliability Experience scores.
