Adobe Brings AI To PDFs

Adobe has introduced AI Assistant in beta, a new generative AI-powered conversational engine embedded within its Reader and Acrobat software.

This innovative feature instantly generates summaries, answers questions, and formats information from lengthy documents, catering to both corporate and leisure users. Leveraging the same artificial intelligence and machine learning models behind Acrobat Liquid Mode, AI Assistant promises to unlock new value from the vast repository of approximately 3 trillion PDFs worldwide.

The introduction of AI Assistant comes as part of Adobe’s ongoing efforts to innovate and enhance the document experience. The tool is deeply integrated into Reader and Acrobat workflows, providing users with intuitive conversational interfaces to interact with their documents effectively. Features include AI-powered recommendations for questions, generative summaries, intelligent citations, easy navigation through clickable links, and formatted output for emails, presentations, and reports.

Adobe Senior Vice President of Document Cloud, Abhigyan Modi said generative AI offers the promise of more intelligent document experiences by transforming PDF content into actionable knowledge and professional-looking content.

The beta version of AI Assistant is currently available for Acrobat Individual, Pro, and Teams customers, with features gradually rolling out to Reader desktop users in English over the coming weeks. Notably, no complicated implementations are required, allowing users to seamlessly integrate AI Assistant into their existing workflows.

Looking ahead, Adobe has ambitious plans for AI Assistant, including insights across multiple documents and document types, AI-powered authoring, editing, and formatting, and intelligent creation features. The company envisions AI Assistant as a catalyst for elevating document collaboration and productivity, empowering users to make the most of their digital documents.
