The Penang Development Corporation said it will offer industrial land leases to investors for a maximum period of 60 years after the completion of the construction of Batu Kawan Industrial Park 3 (BKIP 3).
Chief Executive Officer of PDC, Dato’ Aziz Bakar said that with a net area of 407 acres, BKIP 3 is expected to be fully completed in August 2031 of which Phase 1A of 60 acres is expected to be completed in October 2025. “The development of BKIP 3 differs from BKIP and other PDC industrial parks in terms of land ownership by investors. “Due to changes and technological requirements in a short time as well as the challenge of obtaining new industrial land in Penang, PDC will implement a lease concept where we will obtain freehold and then lease industrial land for a maximum period of 60 years to investors. “The availability concept in terms of infrastructure or Infra Ready Concept is a new approach by the PDC towards the construction of the BKIP 3 project, and we are also working closely with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) so that the new concept is realised.
The state government owned agency said in addition, BKIP 3 will also be equipped with other support facilities such as employee housing and a logistics hub. “PDC also emphasizes sustainable development including the use of green energy and green buildings as well as recycling activities, especially in water management,” he said through the states media channel.
Through the development of BKIP 3, Aziz said PDC aims to maintain industrial growth similar to BKIP, focusing on electronics and electricity (E&E), medical devices, machinery and equipment, engineering and automation. These sectors will remain a priority for continued attention.
After the inauguration of BKIP 3, Aziz envisioned that Penang would further strengthen its position as the ‘Eastern Silicon Valley,’ creating high-income job opportunities. “With the completion of BKIP 3 later, Penang will continue to be a major contributor to the Malaysian economy with the presence of high-impact investments. “In addition, the development of Bandar Cassia which is the third satellite city developed by PDC is also able to receive a positive impact from the development of BKIP 3.
