FedEx Express Trials Cross-Border Delivery From Malaysia To SG Using Electric Vehicle

FedEx Express has initiated its first cross-border delivery trial from Malaysia to Singapore using an electric vehicle (EV). The trial is part of FedEx’s ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable logistics practices.

The journey will be conducted using a ‘Maxus eDeliver 7’ EV, traveling from a FedEx station in Shah Alam, Malaysia, to a FedEx facility at Changi Airport in Singapore, covering a total distance of 406 kilometers. This trial is estimated to reduce tailpipe CO2 emissions by approximately 100 kilograms compared to diesel-powered vans.

FedEx aims to assess the operational effectiveness of cross-border pick-up and delivery operations through this trial. The insights gained will inform future strategies to improve fleet efficiency while providing excellent service to customers.

Kawal Preet, president of the Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa region at FedEx, emphasized the importance of strategic thinking in reducing emissions across all ground operations. The cross-border trial demonstrates FedEx’s commitment to advancing its fleet electrification program in the region, aligning with customer preferences for sustainable delivery options.

The trial is a significant milestone in FedEx’s journey toward transforming its entire global pickup and delivery fleet to zero-emission electric vehicles by 2040. In line with this goal, FedEx added two EVs to its fleet in Malaysia for parcel pick-up and delivery operations within the Klang Valley in May 2023.

Tien Long Woon, managing director of FedEx Express Malaysia, highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation and leveraging technologies to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability. FedEx aims to redefine industry standards by adopting zero-tailpipe emissions vehicles for cross-border deliveries.

FedEx recently introduced FedEx® Sustainability Insights, a cloud-based carbon emissions reporting tool, providing customers in Malaysia with access to historical emissions data on their shipments. This tool enables customers to make informed decisions to reduce their environmental impact when shipping with FedEx.
