CGS Securities Appoints Big Names As Director Including Khairy

Since uncoupling from CIMB, the newly named CGS International Securities Malaysia is taking on board some big names to be part of the company’s board of directors.

Among them it has appointed prominent corporate leader, Tan Sri Shahril Ridza Ridzuan, and entrepreneur and former politician / Minister of Health, Malaysia, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, as its independent non-executive directors, effective 28 February 2024.

They will join six other Board of Director members on CGS MY’s Board specifically, Mdm Carol Fong, Mr Yuen Kwok Wai, Mdm Chan Yuen May, Pn Azizah Binti Mohd Yatim, Mr Alan Inn Wei Loon, and En Khairi Shahrin Arief Bin Baki.

Pn Azizah, CEO of CGS MY, said, “CGS MY welcomes Tan Sri Shahril and En Khairy to our Board. Whilst not mandatory to appoint independent directors to the Board, CGS MY has chosen to adopt the recommended corporate governance best practices in the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance to signify our commitment to the highest standards of corporate governance. With our recent change in ownership to become wholly owned by CGS International Holdings Limited, we have new growth opportunities and can benefit from the credentials, expertise and network of these well-respected individuals to strengthen the competencies of our board.

Tan Sri Shahril has three decades of professional background in public and private companies spanning multiple industries from legal to fund management. He has held senior leadership positions at Employees Provident Fund, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad. Currently, Tan Sri Shahril is on the boards of Axiata Group Berhad, Ekuiti Nasional Berhad, Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional among others.

Khairy spent the last two decades in the public and private sectors, gaining experience in government administration, legislative representation, policy research, finance, military leadership and party politics. He also co-founded and chaired a think tank called The Centre, and was a Director of Investment Banking at ECM Libra Avenue Securities. T
