The government is considering to draw up a special salary act for Technical Education and Vocational Training or TVET graduates by making a minimum wage target of RM4,000 and above.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the proposal was part of an effort to empower the industry in line with the launch of the National TVET Policy. Through the policy, he said, only one TVET recognition center would be established to avoid confusion and duplication between the ministry and the supervising agency. The government is also looking into the salary aspect where the recommendation of a premium salary is not based on the minimum salary but a level higher, which is suggested to be RM4,000 and above.
Zahid said this will indirectly encourage students to enter the TVET field, he added that the TVET program will also start earlier after the third form with vocational and technical colleges being the link to the institutions concerned.
