Govt Extends Air Fare, Rail Subsidy Period In Conjunction With Aidilfitri

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) extended the subsidy assistance initiative for air fares with a maximum price of RM599 from three days to four days in conjunction with the festive season for flights from the Peninsula to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

MOT Minister Anthony Loke said the government has agreed to extend the subsidy period on April 6, 7, 8 and 9 in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.

“Seeing the good response to this initiative, the government decided to extend the flight subsidy period from three days to four days. Anyone who buys a flight ticket from the Peninsula to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan on those four days will not pay more than RM599 for the basic ticket price because any cost above that maximum price will be borne by the government.

“This maximum price can help passengers who have to buy flight tickets at the last minute or on routes that have high demand on their way home,” he said in a statement today (Mar 22).

For the Aidilfitri celebration, MOT through the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) provides a total of 342 additional domestic flights throughout the country for travel between 3 to 18 April.

This strategy has shown a positive effect where more flight tickets especially for routes from Kuala Lumpur to major destinations in Sabah and Sarawak are sold at cheaper prices.

In addition, KTMB services will also provide six additional trains starting from 4 to 15 April, involving two route services from KL Sentral to Padang Besar, two to Butterworth and two to Ipoh.

This ETS additional train offers 1,260 tickets per day making the total number of additional tickets 15,120 including express trains. The total number of ETS tickets offered including regular and additional trains for this Aidilfitri festival season is 135,000 tickets.

KTMB also provides two special Ekspres Lambaian Aidilfitri (ELA) train journeys to and fro that will operate from KL Sentral to Tumpat.

A total of 952 tickets are offered for this special service.

This ELA Special Train will stop at 17 stations namely KL Sentral, Bandar Tasik Selatan, Kajang, Seremban, Pulau Sebang, Gemas, Bahau, Mentakab, Jerantut, Kuala Lipis, Gua Musang, Dabong, Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas, Waqf Bharu and Tumpat.

Additional ETS tickets and ELA special services go on sale today at 5pm.

The public can purchase tickets through the KTMB Mobile application (KITS) and also at ticket kiosks available at all major KTMB stations.
