Rubber Production Falls 2% In Feb From Previous Month: DOSM

Natural Rubber (NR) production decreased by 2.0 per cent in February 2024 (29,691 tonnes) as compared to January 2024 (30,287 tonnes).

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), Monthly Rubber Statistics, February 2024 today (Apr 5) stated that year-on-year comparison showed that the production of NR increased by 9.1 per cent (February 2023: 27,209 tonnes).

Production of NR in February 2024 for Malaysia was mainly contributed by smallholders’ sector (85.7%) as compared to estates sector (14.3%).

Total stocks of NR in February 2024 increased by 11.8 per cent to 229,719 tonnes as compared to 205,498 tonnes in January 2024.

Rubber processors factory contributed 92.3 per cent of the stocks followed by rubber consumers factory (7.6%) and rubber estates (0.1%).

Exports of Malaysia’s NR amounted to 55,082 tonnes in February 2024, increased 27.8 per cent as against January 2024 (43,111 tonnes).

P.R. China remained as the main destination for NR exports which accounted 52.3 per cent of total exports in February 2024 followed by Germany (8.9%), the United Arab Emirates (6.0%), the United States of America (4.2%) and India (3.3%).

Analysis of the average monthly price showed that Concentrated Latex recorded an increase of 16.8 per cent (February 2024: 684.19 sen per kg; January 2024: 585.74 sen per kg) while Scrap increased by 3.7 per cent (February 2024: 604.59 sen per kg; January 2024: 583.29 sen per kg).

Prices for all Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R) increased between 3.5 per cent to 16.6 per cent. DOSM said.
