Accidents, Tree Fall Causing Traffic Congestions On Both Directions

The highway authorities have reported numerous accidents along both the northbound and southbound expressways, a fallen tree (occurred at 6:35 pm today) along the Gombak, Genting route heading to East Coast has added to the congestion on major highways leaving the city centre amidts the Hari Raya exodus.

Spokesperson for the Highway Authority said traffic flow towards the north was congested at the North-South Expressway (PLUS) from Bukit Lanjan to Rawang, from the Rawang Rest and Service Area to Bukit Beruntung, from Bukit Tagar to Lembah Beringin, from Tapah to Gopeng, and from Menora Tunnel to Kuala Kangsar.

“Four Smart Lanes have also been activated until 7pm today for the northbound routes involving the Rawang Rest and Service Area to Sungai Buaya, from Slim River to Sungkai, from Gua Tempurung to Gopeng, and from Bukit Tambun to Juru,” he told Bernama.

Congestion has also been reported for the southbound routes from Nilai to Bandar Ainsdale, from Port Dickson South to Pedas Linggi, and from Kulai to Sedenak.

“Smart Lanes have also been activated in areas involving, among others, from Nilai to the Seremban Rest and Service Area, from Ayer Keroh to the Bemban Rest Area, and from Kulai to Senai,” said the spokesperson.

Traffic heading towards the East Coast is still under control and there is congestion only after the Gombak Toll Plaza until the Genting Sempah Tunnel.

“There is a 13-kilometre traffic snarl due to rain, in addition to an increased number of vehicles and uphill conditions at the location,” he said.
