Jakarta To See 1.87 Million Vehicles Return From Eid Holidays

Jakarta said it expects the number of Eid travelers’ vehicles returning to the city and its surrounding areas through four main toll gates (GT) from April 10 to 18 to reach 1.87 million.

President director of state toll road operator said that the figure would mark an increase of 56.2 percent from the normal traffic volume of 1.2 million vehicles for nine days.

“In the predicted return flow peak, the increase in traffic volume at this point will reach 247.3 percent compared to normal,” he said.

Despite the introduction of high speed train Whoosh, the rise in traffic on the roads has been consistent as many still prefer to travel by cars as most villages outside Jakarta are remote and have poor accessibility.

Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid Aidilfitri starting from April 10 and the usual norm is to leave the cities and head back to their respective family hometown.
