MOH Issues Advisory After 45 Cases Of Heat Related Illness Reported

A total of 45 cases of heat-related illness were reported across the country as of yesterday involving 33 cases of heat exhaustion, 11 cases of heat stroke and one case of heat convulsion.

Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said eight cases were each reported in Perak and Kedah, while six were reported in Selangor.

He said five cases each were recorded in Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang, four cases were recorded in Sabah, two cases in Perlis and one case each in Penang and Kelantan.

In view of the rising heat related illnesses, the Ministry of Health has advised the public to take precautionary measures by ensuring adequate levels of hydration and reducing strenuous physical activity, as well as outdoor activities during the current hot weather season.

He asked the public to avoid being exposed to hot weather, take shelter and rest more often, choose to make movements when it is not hot or at night, especially when visiting relatives and close friends during festivals.

The Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) yesterday said that areas that are at Level 1 Alert is a daily maximum temperature of 35°C to 37°C for at least three consecutive days are the whole of Perlis; Kedah includes Langkawi Island, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pendang, Yan, Kuala Muda, Kulim, Bandar Baharu, Baling, Padang Terap, Sik; and Northeast in Penang.

Also affected is Perak including Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar and Kinta; Musang Cave in Kelantan; Raub in Pahang; Limbang in Sarawak; and Sabah involving Tenom, Beaufort and Tuaran.

One area was recorded to be at Warning Level 2, which is a heat wave with maximum daily temperatures exceeding 37°C to 40°C for at least three consecutive days, which is Pokok Sena in Kedah.
