Shift, JLG Forge Partnership For Marine Battery Facility At Ibrahim Technopolis

Shift Clean Solutions Ltd. (“Shift”) and JLand Group Sdn Bhd (“JLG”) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the establishment of a fabrication and production facility for marine batteries.

The proposed facility, set to be located at the futuristic Ibrahim Technopolis (IBTEC) in Johor, aims to capitalise on the strategic proximity to ASEAN waterways and leverage the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) agreement for regional economic growth.

The collaboration builds upon Shift’s extensive experience in the region, notably as the battery technology partner of the Goal Zero Consortium, which recently developed Singapore’s first fully electric cargo vessel, the Hydromover.

The MoU with JLG further solidifies Shift’s position as a frontrunner in clean energy storage solutions for the maritime industry in Southeast Asia.

Shift CEO, Gary Doyle expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing its significance in meeting the rising demand for marine electrification solutions in the region. He highlighted the collaboration with JLG as a strategic move to bolster the regional supply chain and accelerate the transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable maritime future.

Muaazam Mahmud, Managing Director of JLG, echoed Doyle’s sentiments, emphasizing the strategic alliance’s aim to drive innovation and create tangible impacts in marine and port electrification. He outlined JLG’s commitment to advancing sustainable practices through collaborative efforts with innovative partners like Shift, aligning with JLG’s mission to emerge as a premier provider of real estate solutions responsive to evolving market demands.

The partnership signifies a milestone for IBTEC, showcasing its potential to attract diverse industries with unparalleled infrastructure availability and sustainable initiatives. With JLG’s expertise and IBTEC’s conducive environment, the proposed marine battery facility is poised to contribute significantly to the region’s maritime industry transformation.

The collaboration between Shift and JLG underscores a shared commitment to driving positive industry transformations and advancing sustainable practices, setting a precedent for innovative partnerships in the region’s maritime sector.
