MOSTI Launches AI Sandbox Pilot Programme In Collaboration With NVIDIA

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has initiated the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Sandbox Pilot Programme today, showcasing its commitment to advancing AI technology in collaboration with government bodies and industry partners.

Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, described the programme as a groundbreaking collaboration between the National Technology Innovation Sandbox (NTIS) and NVIDIA. This strategic partnership aims to propel Malaysia towards a knowledge-based economy, leveraging AI to drive innovation, productivity, and competitiveness.

“The programme aims to establish up to 900 AI startups by 2026, nurturing over 13,000 new AI talents, and potentially stimulating up to 10% economic growth,” Chang said.

“This sets a new benchmark for Malaysia’s global presence, aligning perfectly with our national goal of incubating 100 AI companies to generate RM1 billion in revenue by 2030,” he aded.

With Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) leading as the secretariat, the inaugural phase of the sandbox programme will commence virtually. It will welcome AI startups eager to contribute to the programme’s objectives, providing economic opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship in emerging AI-driven industries.

Supported by NVIDIA, the programme will address training and capacity building in AI, ensuring Malaysia’s workforce remains competitive in the evolving landscape of AI-driven industries.

NVIDIA’s role as a Technology Partner under NTIS Innovation Acceleration Network Partner (IAN) will facilitate access to specialised labs and streamline the testing process for AI solutions.

MRANTI has also embarked on a collaboration to equip Malaysia’s top talents with key AI skills, ensuring stakeholders are prepared to contribute to Malaysia’s AI ecosystem effectively.

This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to advancing Malaysia’s AI capabilities. The AI Sandbox Pilot Programme initiative positions Malaysia as a key player in the global AI revolution, advocating for AI-based solutions.
