Plogging Program Launched In Malaysia To Promote Environmental Sustainability

Plogging, the environmentally-friendly fitness trend originating from Sweden, is gaining traction in Malaysia as a means to promote sustainability and community engagement. Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability (NRES), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, highlighted the positive impact of plogging on environmental conservation during the launch of a plogging program held in conjunction with Earth Day 2024.

Nik Nazmi emphasised that plogging not only encourages physical activity but also instills a sense of unity and appreciation for environmental stewardship among the public. He noted the significance of addressing litter and cleanliness issues in various locations, underscoring the potential of combining exercise with litter collection to enhance environmental well-being.

The plogging event, themed ‘Planet vs Plastic’, was organised by the Embassy of Sweden in Malaysia in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the National News Agency of Malaysia (Bernama). The initiative aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection while promoting an active lifestyle.

During the event, Nik Nazmi expressed the Ministry’s commitment to fostering partnerships for environmental conservation efforts, with a particular focus on involving educational institutions. He highlighted the importance of integrating environmental conservation principles into school activities to cultivate awareness and responsibility among students.

The participation of Nik Nazmi in plogging activities alongside school students, Bernama staff, embassy officials, and ministry officers underscored the government’s dedication to promoting sustainable practices and community involvement in environmental initiatives.

The event concluded with a strong message of collective responsibility and the importance of taking action to protect the environment for future generations.
