MGCC Appoints Jan Noether As New Executive Director

The Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC) welcomes Jan Noether as its new Executive Director, effective May 1, 2024. Noether succeeds Daniel Bernbeck, who led MGCC from September 2015 to February 2024.

Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience, Noether has served with the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK) for 18 years. Most recently, he held the position of CEO at the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Egypt). His previous roles include CEO of AHK Turkiye, CEO of AHK Greater China (Shanghai), and CEO of AHK Vietnam. Additionally, Mr. Noether spent nearly 16 years in the banking industry with Deutsche Bank, where he began his career.

Noether’s extensive background in fostering international cooperation in Asia and the Middle East will strengthen MGCC’s business focus in Malaysia. His appointment reaffirms MGCC’s commitment to facilitating and strengthening economic ties between Malaysia and Germany, its largest trading partner in Europe.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Noether said, “I am delighted to be back in Asia, a region brimming with potential that is gaining attention in Germany. Malaysia’s economic stability and multicultural workforce position it as a favorable investment destination. I look forward to contributing to Malaysia’s success story by leveraging the expertise of our team, member companies, and relevant government agencies.”

Since 2021, Noether has served as the AHK Global Spokesperson, further strengthening the AHK network’s cross-regional teamwork and collaboration. His presence in Malaysia marks the first time a Global Spokesperson is located in an ASEAN country, providing greater visibility to MGCC within its global network of 150 offices across 93 countries.
