Dato’ Akbar Moidunny Elected As MAICSA’s New President

Dato’ Akbar Moidunny has been elected as the new President of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA), succeeding Simon Yeoh. The appointment was confirmed during a Council meeting held on July 9.

In addition to Dato’ Akbar’s presidency, Dipak Kaur has been appointed as Deputy President, and Dr. Nandita Choudhury has been named Vice-President. The new leadership team is set to drive MAICSA’s initiatives forward with a focus on enhancing professional development, promoting good governance, and leveraging technology for innovation.

Dato’ Akbar Moidunny, who has served as the Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MINC Group of Companies since 1986, brings over 37 years of professional experience in corporate secretarial and governance consultancy. His extensive experience includes consultancy, restructuring, and due diligence for multinational and local corporations. Dato’ Akbar is also an active participant in corporate legislation forums and serves as a mediator in corporate disputes.

During the meeting, MAICSA also announced a new lineup for the 2024 term, including Associate Professor Noorbijan Abu Bakar as Honorary Secretary and Lee Mi Ryoung as Honorary Treasurer. Simon Yeoh will serve as Immediate Past President, and Datuk Suseela Menon will take on the role of Past President. Additionally, Datuk Suseela Menon has been elected as MAICSA’s representative to the Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) UK.

The Council welcomed new members Dr. Hj. Mazlan Hj. Ahmad and Maheswari Kanniah, and Intan Nabilaa Idrus was co-opted as a Council Member. Other Council Members include Samantha Tai and Ivy Chin.
