The National Union Of Bank Employees said it will launch a series of pickets nationwide from 21 July in what it calls a protest against the increasingly outrageous ways in which the CEOs of the banks are committing union busting.
The association alleges that bank CEOs have denied the employees from the rights of a work life balance, to be FREE from bullying, discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment, right to “job security” and list of other benefit denials including the right to attend HRDC and other trainings on paid leave to be reskilled and upskilled.
NUBE President J Solomon said a significant number of the banks are government linked companies who are acting
contrary to their purpose of existence. Local and foreign owned banks, emboldened by the GLCs example, are also becoming blatant in their transgressions against the rights of the workers. He also noted that how regulatory bodies, are silent of their misconduct, favouring the oppressors.
Solomon highlighted that a bank CEOs annual earning is what union members will earn only after working 1000 years and has called for equal human rights treatment for all regardless of their status.
