Bursa Malaysia Ends Lower Amidst Regional Market Pressure

Bursa Malaysia closed lower today, mirroring the regional market downturn, although the local bourse experienced only a mild decline. The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 6.41 points or 0.38% to end the day at 1,670.24 points.

Leading the fall were heavyweights Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PCHEM) and Malayan Banking Bhd (MAYBANK), which dragged the index down amidst broad-based selling.

Overall market breadth was negative with 813 decliners against 307 advancers, while 638 counters remained unchanged, and 691 counters were untraded. A total of 3.09 billion shares were exchanged for RM2.90 billion.

The broader market also saw losses, with the FTSE Bursa Malaysia All-Share Index dropping 68.86 points to settle at 12,428.76 points.

In the currency market, the ringgit weakened further, trading at 4.3535 against the US dollar as of 5pm.
