OMNI Oil Technologies (M) Sdn. Bhd. (OMNI), a Malaysian designer and manufacturer of drilling, completion, and wellhead parts, has announced the launch of Malaysia’s first locally produced VDP PDC Steel Body Drill Bits.
This product has been recognised with an award from Petronas for its contribution to the advancement of upstream oilfield equipment technology in Malaysia.
The VDP PDC Steel Body Drill Bits were developed through the Vendor Development Programme (VDP) for bow spring and solid centralisers, showcasing OMNI’s expertise and commitment to innovation within the Malaysian oilfield industry.
In conjunction with the launch, OMNI has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Schlumberger (SLB), a global leader in energy innovation.
The signing ceremony was attended by OMNI Managing Director Mr. Nik Mustapha Fathil Nik Mahmud and SLB East Asia GeoUnit Marketing Manager Mr. Amin Said, with the event witnessed by Petronas Senior Vice President, Malaysian Petroleum Management Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong, SLB Managing Director, East Asia GeoUnit Mr. Meng Keong Lee, and key representatives from both companies.
The partnership between OMNI and SLB, which began in 2013, initially involved the supply of Malaysian-manufactured completion parts to local and global markets.
This latest phase of the collaboration will focus on contract manufacturing of wellheads.
SLB Managing Director, East Asia GeoUnit, Mr. Meng Keong Lee, echoed this sentiment, noting the global success of Malaysian-made products. “Together with OMNI, we have delivered high-quality products to 43 countries, highlighting the engineering capabilities of Malaysia. This partnership has set a high standard for quality and innovation, and I am confident it will lead to further breakthroughs.”
