The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), through its Paris office, recently hosted the Malaysia Breakfast Business Networking Event to enhance understanding of Malaysia’s economic landscape among French business communities.
Organised in partnership with Business France, the event coincided with the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and aimed to strengthen economic ties between Malaysia and France.
MATRADE’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, highlighted Malaysia’s commitment to sustainability and its role as a leader in industries like electronics, aerospace, and green technologies.
He emphasised France’s pivotal role in supporting Malaysia’s sustainability roadmap, particularly in achieving its net-zero target by 2050. “As Malaysia’s trade promotion organisation, MATRADE will continue to support the nation’s socio-economic progression, guided by the National Trade Blueprint,” he said.
MATRADE Paris Trade Commissioner Zuhaila Sedek noted Malaysia’s positive economic growth, driven by rising GDP, external trade, and investment performance. She emphasised that the event generated interest among French businesses to position Malaysia as their sourcing hub in Southeast Asia.
The event also served as a prelude to Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN chairmanship in 2025, where the country will focus on enhancing regional cooperation and sustainable development across Southeast Asia.
Malaysian companies including Ge-Shen Corp. Bhd, Heng Hiap Industries, and Artwist showcased their products, with Rhong Khen and Artwist launching their expansion into the European market.
Trade between Malaysia and the European Union (EU) accounted for 7.7% of Malaysia’s total trade, with exports to France rising by over 46% to RM560 million.
