Batik Air will launch its new direct route between Penang and Jakarta, Indonesia, starting 1 October, reported Bernama.
The route that initiates from Penang International Airport and arrives at Soekarno-Hatta Airport will provide better services to business travelers and vacationers alike by flying daily with return flights to and fro Penang and Jakarta.
Batik Air’s CEO, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, stated that the introduction of the new route serves to elevate bilateral relation between Malaysia and Indonesia as market seeks easier travelling options, adding that the flight route makes it easier for Indonesian visitors to travel to Penang in order to receive medical treatment.
In 2023 alone, Penang received over 160,000 visitors from Indonesia, proving that Indonesia has become the main market. Professionals and families from Indonesia are attracted by Penang’s unique mix of culture, food and festivals.
Last year, the number of tourists arriving at Penang International Airport came from more than 40 countries, with the highest number of visitors originating from Indonesia (163,187), followed by Singapore (74,800), Taiwan (15,602) and China (13,029), according to the state’s Tourism and Creative Economy Agency.
The new Penang-Jakarta route will utilise Boeing-737 to transport passengers under two seating categories.
