KLCI Largely Inactive As Investors Turn Cautious

Bursa’s benchmark index, FBM KLCI, today rose by 2.24 points, or 0.14%, to close at 1641.55, considered inactive as investors are cautious of the escalation of violence in the Middle East.

The slight movement could be partially attributable to China markets that are still closed for the week-long national holidays until next Tuesday.

Throughout the trading day, the index fluctuated between the high of 1643.82 and the low of 1630.45.

Traders were seen building up their buy-positions in banking stocks. Maybank was up RM0.08 to RM10.54 while Public Bank and RHB Bank both rose RM0.04 to RM4.57 and RM6.15, respectively.

Oil and gas share Petronas Chemicals increased RM0.07 to RM5.77.

On the broader market, losers outnumbered gainers by 504 to 473, with 545 counters unchanged.
