FBM KLCI Loses Ground, Closes Below 1630

Bursa’s benchmark index, FBM KLCI, closed down 11.58 points, or 0.71% at 1,629.97.

The market traded between an intra-day high of 1,639.29 and a low of 1,625.35 during the session, unable to venture beyond the 1640 level.

Unsurprisingly, the exchange’s energy index jumped 34.87 points, or 4.07% to 892.68 points, outperforming the benchmark index that incorporates 30 companies with the largest market capitalisation.

Other market sectors that are in the green zone are plantation and construction.

The construction index rose 0.05% to settle at 276.75.

In the red zone, telecommunications and media sector recorded the biggest loss, dropping 1.75% to close at 548.651 . Maxis and CelcomDigi lost 20 sen2 and 8 sen3 to settle at RM3.65 and RM3.62, respectively.

Overall, market sentiment was negative with 610 counters closed lower versus 410 that closed higher.

Turnover slipped to 3.10 billion units valued at RM2.67 billion from Thursday’s 3.29 billion units worth RM2.52 billion.
