The nation’s long-standing dairy products provider, Nestle Malaysia Bhd today gained 90 sen to end the day at RM104.60.
Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, the popular beverage supplier, also surging 38 sen to close at RM31.00
AMMB Holdings Bhd and Hup Seng Industries Bhd are also among the top gainers, rising 19 sen, 17 sen and 14 sen, respectively.
Notably, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, surged up to gain 14 sen to settle at RM8.22, taking over Public Bank Bhd’s spot as the nation’s second largest company holding RM88.07 billion in market capitalisation, compared to Public Bank’s estimated RM85 billion.
Public Bank and LPI Capital Bhd both experienced sizeable losses following Public Bank’s acquisition of of 44.15% of LPI Capital’s equity.
LPI Capital was the top decliner, losing 40 sen, or 3.08%, to settle at RM12.60. Meanwhile, Public Bank came in third on the decliners’ list, losing 26 sen, or 5.69%, to close at RM4.31.
At closing, the shares of Hong Leong Financial Group lost 20 sen to settle at RM19.04. It is unclear if financial service provider Hong Leong Financial Group responded negatively to the acquisition of LPI Capital Bhd by Public Bank.
Beer suppliers occupies two spots in the losers’ list. Heinekan Malaysia Bhd, trimmed 30 sen to settle at RM22.92 on relatively low volume of 58,600 shares, or 58 lots1. Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia shed 22 sen to close the day at RM19.46, also on relatively low volume of 48,200 shares, or 48 lots.
On the broader market, decliners outnumbered gainers 546 to 420, with 526 counters unchanged and 961 untraded.
Total daily trading volume increased to 2.29 billion shares valued at RM2.67 billion, from 2.63 billion shares valued at RM2.30 billion yesterday.
