EDGNEX Data Centre by DAMAC via DAMAC Group is investing RM4.28 billion in a series of data centre (DC) projects in Thailand to meet the rising demand of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology and data processing capabilities.
This strategic investment, a joint venture (JV) with PROEN Corp plc, marks a major expansion of EDGNEX’s footprint in Thailand and aligns with its commitment to supporting digital transformation in the Southeast Asia.
The JV, in which EDGNEX owns 70% stake and will be responsible for the DC’s operations, will include a state-of-the-art DC project with a total potential capacity of 20-megawatt (MW), with the first phase, comprising 5MW of capacity, is already scheduled to be operational in early 2025.
The DC will be a carrier-neutral facility with Tier III uptime certification, providing world-class reliability and resilience for its clients. The JV is targeted to finalise and commence its business by this year.
Commenting on the investment, DAMAC founder Hussain Sajwani said the group aims to support Thailand’s growing digital economy and provide the necessary infrastructure for the next generation of AI-driven businesses.
“The substantial investment in Thailand, a country that has shown immense potential for growth in digital innovation and smart technologies, outlines a pipeline of approximately 100MW of future DC capacity,” Hussain said.
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society Prasert Chantararuangthong said DAMAC’s investment will significantly enhance Thailand’s data processing capabilities, aligning with the growing trends in the digital industry and attracting investors from around the world.
“It will create valuable opportunities for Thai professionals seeking to advance in the digital business sector,” Chantararuangthong said.
