In the recently announced Budget 2025, the Malaysian government has committed RM3.1 billion towards flood mitigation and disaster preparedness initiatives. This significant investment includes RM150 million specifically designated for flash flood mitigation efforts and RM600 million for disaster and emergency response preparations.
Additionally, RM20 million will be allocated to assist flood victims through Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLIC) and Government-Linked Companies (GLC). The budget also earmarks RM250 million for slope repairs, while RM21 million is designated for addressing land subsidence issues in Perak, Kedah, and Perlis.
Moreover, the government plans to invest RM10 million in geotechnical studies to assess soil layering, ensuring the effectiveness of flood prevention projects. A total of eight local projects will be initiated as part of these comprehensive measures, which also include a massive RM3 billion investment in flood mitigation planning.
