Indonesia’s Top Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Resigns As Police Probe Widens

Indonesia’s top corruption prosecutor has resigned days after police raided his home and uncovered gold bars and millions of dollars in cash, as authorities expand an investigation into alleged corruption and financial misconduct.

Febrie Adriansyah, who headed the Attorney General’s Office’s special crimes division, stepped down to avoid any concerns over the integrity of the ongoing investigation. His resignation comes after police conducted searches at several locations linked to a wider probe.

The raid uncovered gold bars, foreign currency and cash reportedly worth hundreds of billions of rupiah. The findings have intensified scrutiny over the country’s anti-corruption institutions and raised questions about the source of the assets.

Authorities are examining several corruption allegations as part of the broader investigation, including cases linked to state companies and procurement activities. No charges have been announced against Febrie, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Febrie has denied wrongdoing and said the assets found during the search could be explained through the appropriate legal process. He has maintained that he is cooperating with authorities as the inquiry continues.

According to Bloomberg, the resignation adds pressure on Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen oversight of corruption investigations, particularly as the country seeks to demonstrate accountability within its own enforcement agencies.

The case comes at a sensitive time for Indonesia, where corruption remains a major challenge for investors and policymakers. The investigation’s outcome will be closely watched as authorities determine whether further action will be taken against officials connected to the probe.
