The government is set to strengthen its fight against cybercrime with the tabling of two bills in the Dewan Rakyat today, marking a critical milestone in its commitment to ensuring online safety.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil will present the Communications and Multimedia (Amendment) Bill 2024 and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (Amendment) Bill 2024 for their first reading at 11.30 am.
These amendments aim to bolster the country’s digital ecosystem by enhancing cybersecurity measures and addressing issues like social media misuse, industry development, and network security.
Fahmi had previously stressed that the MADANI Government is resolute in its efforts to combat online criminal activities, ensuring the internet becomes a safer space for all users. The proposed updates to Act 588, in place for 26 years, include expanding Section 233 to prevent the improper use of network facilities or services.
The bills underscore the government’s proactive approach to addressing the rapidly evolving threats in the digital landscape, safeguarding both individuals and businesses in Malaysia.
