Kuala Lumpur stock exchange’s benchmark KLCI at midday advanced 6.94 points to 1,609.02 points, from Thursday’s close of 1,602.08 points, potentially ending the week with a positive note.
During the half-day session, the key index moved between 1,603.74 points and 1,610.06 points, reflecting a range of 6.32 points.
This morning, the benchmark index opened 1.78 points higher. As at 9:10am, the key index continued to rise 3.54 points to 1605.62 points.
In late morning, the key index added 4.21 points as at 10:54am. At midday, the index surged almost seven points, reaching 1,609.02 points.
At midday, gainers led decliners by 455 to 443, while 481 counters were unchanged, 1,122 were untraded.
The half-day volume amounted to over 1.59 billion (1,592,951,400) valued at nearly RM1.04 billion (RM1,036,092,845).
The Health Care Index continued to show big movement typical since entering this week. At midday, the health sector index climbed 1.18% to 2,295.15 points. Meanwhile, the Construction Index added 1.04% to 306.69 points.
Main market’s technology firm Datasonic Group Bhd was actively traded at midday*, recording a volume of 36,032,500 shares/units as the price stood at RM0.43, unchanged from yesterday’s closing price, though the stock price at one point dipped to RM0.425 and topped at RM0.45. Top Glove Corporation Bhd was also an active counter**, rising four sen to RM1.36 on a turnover of 20,558,500 shares/units. (**Revised, previously stated as the second most traded counter)
Tenaga Nasional Bhd surged 22 sen to reach RM13.78 at midday, recording a turnover of 777,200 shares/units whereas Bursa Malaysia Bhd, the exchange company, incresed 16 sen to RM8.88 on a volume of 399,600 shares/units.
Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd rose 11 sen to RM5.06 on a volume of 3,962,300 shares/units.
Main market’s consumer listing PPB Group Bhd, which largely handles fast-moving consumer goods, was among midday decliners, shedding 14 sen to RM12.56.
