Foodstuff supplier Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd today advanced RM1.22 to return to the RM100 price level for the first time in 30 days. Beer supplier Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd increased 22 sen to end the day at RM20.66.
Technology firms occupied the second and third spots of the gainers’ list. Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd added 36 sen to close at RM25.94 on a volume of 112,200 shares/units, while Vitrox Corporation Bhd climbed 27 sen, or 7.62%, to close at RM3.81 on a turnover of 1,890,200 shares/units.
Utilities counter Petronas Gas Bhd also surged 22 sen to close at RM17.32, recording a volume of 1,642,700 shares/units.
The top decliners’ list today was dominated by companies handling consumer goods especially food and beverage. Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd shed 38 sen to settle at RM30.32 on a turnover of just seven lots (1 lot = 100 shares), followed by beer supplier Heineken Malaysia Bhd which gave up 22 sen to close at RM23.78, soft beverage supplier Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd which lost 14 sen to settle at RM27.84, and lastly, PPB Group, mostly a distributor of fast moving consumer goods, which fell 12 sen to end the day at RM12.58.
Chin Tek Plantations was the third-ranking decliner which slipped 18 sen to close at RM8.01 on a moderate volume of 20 lots.
On the broader market, gainers outnumbered decliners by 611 to 488, while 477 counters were unchanged, 925 untraded.
Exchange-wide turnover increased to nearly 2.79 billion (2,785,135,650) shares/units valued at over RM2.40 billion (RM2,401,580,453), from 2.22 billion (2,216,326,600) shares/units valued at more than RM1.19 billion (RM1,188,687,111) recorded on Thursday.
