Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (PHKL) is coming to the conclusion of its 50th-anniversary celebration, reflecting on a year filled with transformative achievement and meaningful contribution to the community. This landmark year was marked by advancement in clinical excellence and significant investment projects in cutting-edge facilities, honouring Pantai’s legacy and embracing innovation.
To commemorate its 50th anniversary, PHKL launched a series of impactful initiatives that extended care beyond its hospital walls. These efforts included the Lembah Pantai Wellness Initiative, which offered 50 days of free health screenings to over 200 residents, supported by
Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai, Fahmi Fadzil. The RM50 subsidised health screening package provided affordable preventive healthcare to almost 4,000 individuals.
Meanwhile, PHKL’s Wear It Pink campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month raised and donated over RM100,000 in funds to support patients in need of post-mastectomy prostheses and brassieres.
In collaboration with Yayasan Jantung Kongenital Malaysia (YJKM), PHKL also performed life-saving paediatric cardiac surgeries for children with congenital heart conditions, bringing hope to underprivileged families.
Additionally, since 2021 the hospital’s ongoing public-private healthcare partnership has treated nearly 1,000 patients referred to from public hospitals, significantly reducing wait times for critical procedures in specialties such as cardiology, orthopaedics, and vascular surgery.
These efforts highlight the importance of an ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Health in ensuring timely and equitable access to quality care for Malaysians.
A notable community highlight this year was PHKL’s role as the official medical provider for the 2024 Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM), which saw a record-breaking 42,000 participants. The hospital’s dedicated medical team was on-site throughout the event to ensure the safety and well-being of every runner. Beyond providing care on race day, PHKL also conducted basic life support training during the kit collection day to promote first-aid awareness and increase familiarity with CPR techniques using the hospital’s CPR kiosk.
PHKL’s anniversary year also showcased advancements in clinical care and technology. The hospital achieved a milestone when it performed its Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) program, a minimally invasive procedure designed to replace a narrowed aortic valve that does not open properly. Along with this, PHKL also amped up its advanced robotic-assisted surgeries in specialities such as urology, orthopaedics and gynaecology, which improves precision and faster recovery.
Another ground-breaking achievement is the official launch of the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service – the only private hospital in Malaysia currently offering this service – which, to date, has saved over 600 inpatient days this year alone, contributing to better healthcare sustainability in the long term.
Another effort to promote financial sustainability in patient care is our Value-Driven Outcome (VDO) initiative, now expanded to cover nine
procedures, including prostatectomy and breast surgeries, delivering high-value care with measurable patient benefits.
PHKL’s reputable Clinical Research Centre (CRC) further achieved a significant milestone in 2024, with its Research Ethics Committee being recognised by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA). With 28 ongoing trials and 29 publications since 2021, the CRC
continues to advance clinical research at the forefront.
A key highlight of the year was the unveiling of PHKL’s technology-integrated D7 Ward in August. Meticulously designed to address the evolving needs of patients and caregivers, the ward is a blueprint for what will be the norm for PHKL. Integrated with technology seamlessly, features such as touchless amenities help reduce infection risks, along with personalised treatment updates via digital tablets to enhance safety and improve communication between care teams and families. Real-time digital panels for the medical staff also ensure seamless coordination and optimum responsiveness for all patients.
This also marked the beginning of PHKL’s remodelling, aimed at renewing its facilities, upgrading medical technologies, and introducing advanced medical equipment to further enhance care quality. These investments underscore the hospital’s commitment to shaping a future where innovation and sustainability drive its mission to deliver exceptional healthcare.
Last but not least, the hospital’s commitment to quality care was further validated with its sixth Joint Commission International (JCI) re-accreditation, underscoring its dedication and adherence to global healthcare standards.
