Foodstuff distributor Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd today became the top gainer which added 80 sen to close at RM97.80 on a volume of 33,500 shares/units, while gas station retail group Petronas Dagangan Bhd advanced 18 sen to close at RM19.20, recording a turnover of 207,800 shares/units.
Technology firm specialising in semiconductor manufacturing Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd was the second-ranking gainer which surged 54 sen to close at RM25.74 on a volume of 48,300 shares/units.
Hong Leong Bank traded up by 34 sen to settle at RM20.34 on a volume of 838,400 shares/units while SAM Engineering & Equipment (Malaysia) Bhd increased 30 sen, or 7.19%, to end the day at RM4.47 on a turnove rof 1,478,600 shares/units.
United Plantations Bhd continued its losing streak since last week, giving up a massive RM1.60, or 5.59%, to become the top decliner today, settling at RM30.22 on a volume of 1,053,100 shares/units. Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd, also a plantation counter, lost 20 sen to close at RM21.30 on a volume of 88,800 shares/units.
Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd trimmed 30 sen to settle at RM9.90 on a moderate volume of 16,600 shares/units. Auto and autoparts distributor MBM Resources, a consumer listing, decreased 19 sen, or 3.26%, to end the day at RM6.01 on a turnover of 651,600 shares/units.
Lastly, construction veteran Gamuda Bhd gave up 17 sen, 3.83%, settling at RM4.61 after recording an impressive turnover of 23,397,900 shares/units.
On the broader market, decliners outnumbered gainers by 545 to 390, while 565 counters were unchanged.
The exchange-wide daily trading volume fell to over 2.37 billion (2,372,681,400) shares/units valued at nearly RM2.04 billion (RM2,039,485,704) from nearly 3.34 billion (3,398,003,400) shares/units valued at more than RM3.77 billion (RM3,766,854,546).
