Kuala Lumpur exchange’s benchmark KLCI today surged 6.79 points to settle at 1,603.99 points, from Monday’s close of 1,596.20 points.
Throughout the trading day, the key index fluctuated from 1,596.64 points to 1,603.89 points, which represented a gap of 7.25 points. Earlier, during the half-day session that concluded at midday, the index moved within a range of 6.93 points, from the same intraday low of 1,596.64 points to 1,604.57 points.
Market analysts noted that overnight major US market closed higher and that boosted the local market sentiment to a certain extent. Overall, the market was cautious and relatively flat on the holiday eve.
This morning, the benchmark index opened 0.44 of a point higher during the opening session. The market gained momentum and pushed up the index by 2.56 points to reach 1,598.76 points as at 9:07am. The upward trend largely remained until the conclusion of the half-day session where the index advanced 6.06 points to 1,602.26 points.
The Energy Index recorded the biggest sector index surge of 1.47% to close at 815.06 points. Meanwhile, the Construction Index was the top decliners index which gave up 0.34% to 300.03 points.
All other sector indices moved within the range from 0.34% to 0.65%.
Genetec Technology Bhd, Winstar Capital Bhd and Vanzo Holdings Bhd were the most active counters for the day. Genetec recorded a turnover of 41,615,200 shares/units, Winstar registered a volume of 41,107,100 shares/units, and lastly, Vanzo recorded a trading volume of 28,906,000 shares/units.
Main market-listed Genetec advanced six sen to settle at RM1.30, ACE market’s aluminium extruder and manufacturer Winstar added 3.5 sen to settle at RM50.64, and car and household fragrance producer Vanzo, which is also an ACE market listing, gained 1.5 sen to end the day at RM0.18.
Consumer listing Life Water Bhd added seven sen, or 8.14%, to settle at RM0.93, recording a volume of 20,586,100 shares/units. Notion Vtec Bhd climbed six sen to RM1.36, or 4.62%, on a volume of 13,724,900 shares/units.
On the broader market, gainers outnumbered decliners by 500 to 428, while 533 counters were unchanged, 962 untraded and nine suspended.
The exchange-wide daily turnover fell to over 2.01 billion (2,014,590,800) shares/units valued at more than RM1.54 billion (RM1,542,081,720) from over 2.37 billion (2,372,681,400) shares/units valued at nearly RM2.04 billion (RM2,039,485,704) recorded on Monday.
