The Green Electricity Tariff (GET) programme will continue in 2025 with a quota of at least 6,600GWj. The premium rate remains unchanged at 10sen/kWj for low-voltage users and 20sen/kWj for medium and high-voltage users.
Several improvements will be introduced in 2025, including the opening of long-term subscription options, allowing users to subscribe to GET until 2027. This will provide greater certainty for corporate and industrial users planning their green electricity supply.
The GET programme, which was launched in 2021, is a key government initiative offering electricity generated from renewable energy sources to Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) users seeking to reduce their carbon footprint. Since its introduction, the GET programme has cumulatively supplied 9,400GWj of green electricity to over 3,000 users across various sectors, supporting their commitment to Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance, particularly in avoiding greenhouse gas emissions through the use of green energy.
Due to encouraging responses and international recognition, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), together with the Energy Commission, has reviewed the operations and subscription principles of the programme to maintain user confidence. The government has also decided that GET subscribers in 2025 will not incur the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) charge on actual energy usage.
The new GET tariff for 2025 is set at 10sen/kWj for residential and low-voltage non-residential users and 20sen/kWj for medium and high-voltage non-residential users. Subscriptions can be made from March 1, 2025, via the myTNB portal, with an option for backdating to January 2025. The subscription lock-in period is set until Dec 31, with automatic renewal unless cancellation is made by the user.
A new long-term GET subscription option will also be available with a lower premium rate based on the subscription duration:
- 1 year: 10sen/kWj for low-voltage users, 20sen/kWj for medium and high-voltage users
- 2 years: 9sen/kWj for low-voltage users, 19sen/kWj for medium and high-voltage users
- 3 years: 8sen/kWj for low-voltage users, 18sen/kWj for medium and high-voltage users
Users will also have the option for early termination, with a termination fee of 2sen/kWj applied to unused GET subscriptions.
Revenue from the GET programme will support the country’s energy transition efforts, particularly in increasing renewable energy capacity, such as through the Solar for the People Scheme (SolaRIS).
