KLCI Retreats Slightly From Midday, Adds 14 Pts, Settles At 1628

Kuala Lumpur stock exchange’s key index surged 14.44 points and settled at 1,628.14 points at closing, from Thursday’s close of 1,613.70 points.

Throughout the trading day, the benchmark KLCI moved between the low of 1,616.69 points and the high of 1,632.63 points, which reflected a gap of 15.94 points. Earlier, during the half-day session, the key index shot to the intraday high of 1,632.63 points, which reflected a leap of 18.93 points from Thursday’s close.

This morning, the key index opened 3.86 points higher. As at 9:04am, the index rose 7.97 points and continued to rise into late morning, advancing 12.80 points as at 10:03am. The index eventually rose 17.79 points at midday to surpass the 1630-point threshold, concluding the half-day session at 1,631.49 points.

The exchange-maintained sectoral indices ended largely in the green territory. The Health Care Index registered the biggest rise of 2.01%, settling at 2,378.95 points, followed by the Construction Index which added 1.50% to 305.93 points, and the Property Index which increased 1.08% to 1,109.93 points. At midday, these three sectors were also the top three sectors which rallied and contributed to the 18-point surge of KLCI.

Only two sectors showed decline, including the Consumer Products & Services and the Transportation & Logistics sectors where the associated indices both shed 0.09% to 545.00 points and 1,049.10 points, respectively.

Main board’s property listing TWL Holdings Bhd was the most actively traded counter at closing, recording a turnover of 76,576,600 shares/units and closing at RM0.025 unchanged from the previous close. Midday’s most active counter Vanzo Holdings Bhd was the second most traded stock at closing, giving up half a sen to settle at RM0.20, recording a volume of 55,821,000 shares/units.

Tenaga Nasional Bhd was the focal stock for the day following news of approved electricity tariff hike of 14.2% during RP4 (2025-2027) from Jul 1, 2025 onwards. At closing, Tenaga’s shares traded at RM14.74, after surging 56 sen or 3.95% on a volume of 17,025,100 shares/units. The shares of Tenaga at one point rallied past the RM15.00-threshold to the intraday high of RM15.04.

Glovemakers Supermax Corporation Bhd and Top Glove Corporation Bhd both advanced five sen to settle at RM1.28 and RM1.37, respectively. Supermax rose 4.07% after recording a volume of 29,470,800 shares/units while Top Glove was up 3.79%, registering a turnover of 24,418,700 shares/units.

Sime Darby Property Bhd climbed five sen, or 3.21%, to close at RM1.61 after recording a trading turnover of 16,217,400 shares/units. Main board’s property listing UEM Sunrise Bhd traded past the RM1.00-mark, rising four sen, or 4.08%, to close at RM1.02 on a volume of 21,130,500 shares/units.

Construction listing Gamuda Bhd added seven sen, or 1.52%, to settle at RM4.69 on a volume of 19,635,800 shares/units.

Main market’s industrial listing Scientex Bhd was the top decliner today, giving up 13 sen to settle at RM4.44 on a turnover of 431,700 shares/units.

On the broader market, gainers outpaced decliners by 617 to 420, while 540 counters were unchanged and 845 untraded.

The exchange-wide trading volume increased to nearly 2.87 billion (2,869,860,100) shares/units valued at about RM2.08 billion (RM2,077,185,624), from nearly 2.47 billion (2,467,249,700) shares/units valued at RM1.87 billion (RM1,865,169,181) recorded on Dec 26.
