Owing to news of electricity tariff hike from Jul 1, 2025, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) today surged 56 sen, or 3.95%, to close at RM14.74 on a turnover of 17,025,100 shares/units.
United Plantations Bhd recorded the biggest intraday gain of 74 sen to top the list, closing at RM31.34 on a turnover of 610,200 shares/units.
Beer supplier Heineken Malaysia Bhd added 28 sen to settle at RM23.90 on a volume of 73,100 shares/units while Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd climbed 26 sen to close at RM30.24 on a volume of 57 lots.
Lastly, the exchange company Bursa Malaysia Bhd rose 15 sen to end the day at RM8.89, on a turnover of 502,600 shares/units.
The top three decliners today were all from the consumer products & services listing category. Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd was the top decliner which gave up 52 sen to close at RM97.02 on a turnover of 84 lots, followed by Hong Leong Industries Bhd which slipped 28 sen to settle at RM14.16 on a volume of 48,500 shares/units, and gas station retailer Petronas Dagangan Bhd which decreased 24 sen, closing at RM19.34 on a volume of 77,900 shares/units.
Riverview Rubber Estates Bhd slid 14 sen to end the day at RM3.06, recording a volume of three lots. (1 lot=100 shares)
Scientex Bhd, an industrial listing, slid 13 sen, or 2.84%, to close at RM4.44, after recording a turnover of 431,700 shares/units.
On the broader market, gainers outpaced decliners by 617 to 420, while 540 counters were unchanged and 845 untraded.
The exchange-wide trading volume increased to nearly 2.87 billion (2,869,860,100) shares/units valued at about RM2.08 billion (RM2,077,185,624), from nearly 2.47 billion (2,467,249,700) shares/units valued at RM1.87 billion (RM1,865,169,181) recorded on Dec 26.
