Nestle Surges RM2.96, United Plantations Sheds 34 Sen [Updated]

Leading foodstuff supplier Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd today topped the gainers’ chart, rising RM2.96 to close at RM99.98, just two sen away from the RM100.00 psychological threshold.

The gainers’ list was largely dominated by consumer listings in addition to Nestle. Beer supplier Heineken Malaysia Bhd added 24 sen to close at RM24.14, occupying the second spot on the list. Beverage supplier Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd climbed 16 sen to end the day at RM28.16, while auto and autoparts dealer MBM Resources Bhd advanced 15 sen, settling at RM6.15.

Meanwhile, United Plantations Bhd was the top decliner for today which gave up 34 sen to close at RM31.00. Leading technology listing Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd shed 32 sen to settle at RM25.68.

Contrary to the rally of major consumer listings, beer distributor Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd declined 16 sen to end at RM20.58.

Main board’s property listing SHL Consolidated Bhd slipped ten sen, or 4.20%, to settle at RM2.28.

Tinplate producer Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (PERSTIMA) Bhd, listed on the Main board under the industrial category, slid 15 sen, or 6.67%, to RM2.10, recording just 18 lots in volume. (1 lot=100 shares)

On the broader market, gainers outnumbered decliners by 614 to 452, while 526 counters were unchanged, 820 untraded.

The exchange-wide trading volume fell to 2.55 billion (2,552,581,600) shares/units valued at nearly RM2.09 billion (RM2.085,296,930), from nearly 2.87 billion (2,869,860,100) shares/units valued at about RM2.08 billion (RM2,077,185,624) recorded last Friday.
