Chopard has unveiled its Insofu Emerald collection, a unique Haute Joaillerie line that merges nature’s beauty with sustainable luxury and creative design. This collection marks the second time Chopard has created a line from a raw stone, ensuring traceability and closer collaboration with suppliers.
The Insofu Emerald collection features a range of dazzling pieces, including an elephant-shaped pendant honouring the gem’s name, Art Deco-inspired chokers, and extravagant necklaces reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties. Each jewel captures a different facet of the Insofu Emerald’s character and Chopard’s boundless creativity.
The collection began in 2022 when Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director, unveiled a remarkable 6,225-carat rough emerald. Discovered in Zambia and named “Insofu” (meaning “elephant” in the Bemba language) for its shape and size, the gem captivated Scheufele, who recognised its potential to become the heart of extraordinary jewels.
However, unlike cutting diamonds, cutting emeralds is a delicate process. Chopard collaborated with skilled gem-cutters from India in its Geneva workshops to study the Insofu emerald. The emeralds’ fragility and internal inclusions required careful handling, and after nearly a year, the Insofu gem yielded 850 carats of emeralds.
Beyond its artistry, the Insofu Collection reflects Chopard’s dedication to ethical luxury. Furthermore, Chopard’s partnerships with Gemfields and the Elephant Family support community development, wildlife conservation in Zambia, and efforts to mitigate human-elephant conflict.
