Maybank Group has confirmed the appointment of Shafiq Abdul Jabbar as its new Group Chief Financial Officer (GCFO), effective July 2025.
He will assume the role previously held by Khalijah Ismail, who was dismissed by Maybank earlier this year due to internal non-compliance.
Shafiq is currently serving a garden leave period. His most recent position was Group Chief Financial Officer at AmBank, a role he took on in 2024. Prior to AmBank, Shafiq was the Group Chief Financial Officer at Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad, a position he held from January 2017 to January 2024.
His earlier career includes a stint at CIMB Group Holdings Berhad, where he served in various capacities, including Head of Business Finance Advisory, Country Chief Financial Officer, and Group Financial Controller (May 2010 – January 2017). Shafiq also has experience in the professional services sector, having worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (Kuala Lumpur and London Offices) from June 2003 to March 2010, where he progressed from Manager to Executive Director, and at KPMG Melbourne from February 1999 to March 2003, where he held roles from Associate to Assistant Manager.
