Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a deepening of bilateral ties with Singapore during a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Beijing on Tuesday, as both nations commemorate 35 years of diplomatic relations.
President Xi congratulated Wong on his second term in office and expressed confidence in the continuation of close cooperation between the two countries. Highlighting their longstanding partnership, Xi said the relationship has been built on mutual respect and understanding, forming the foundation for the stable and healthy development of ties.
The Chinese leader pointed to collaborative efforts such as the Suzhou Industrial Park, describing them as key contributions to both countries’ modernisation and examples for regional cooperation. He encouraged both sides to reflect on their past successes and to continue nurturing the “tree of China-Singapore friendship” to produce “abundant fruits”.
Xi stressed the importance of maintaining the strategic direction of bilateral ties, urging that China and Singapore strengthen their partnership from a long-term and high-level perspective.
