The Health Ministry (MOH) will soon present an expert committee’s recommendation to ban electronic cigarettes and vape to the Cabinet, marking a significant step towards outlawing the products, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said.
“We are committed to this (vape ban). It is no longer a matter of ‘if’. I will present it to the Cabinet for deliberation once the study is complete,” Dr Dzulkefly said on Aug 9.
Dr Dzulkefly highlighted that enforcement of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) is already yielding results, with smoking product variants in the market reduced from 6,824 before the Act’s enactment to 2,794 in June, a drop to 40.9% of the original number.
“With strict enforcement, I am confident we can regulate cigarette and vape sales effectively. Most importantly, we must protect non-adults, students and our children from exposure to vape,” he said, stressing that Act 852 will be applied firmly to safeguard public health.
