Canadian investment giant Brookfield has signed a joint investment framework agreement with Solarvest Holdings Bhd to jointly develop, build and operate at least 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects in Malaysia. The deal marks Brookfield’s first investment in Malaysia.
Brookfield’s Head of Renewable Power & Transition for Asia Pacific Daniel Cheng said Malaysia’s ambitious national clean energy targets and growing role as a hub for data centres and semiconductor manufacturing make it a prime investment destination.
“We are committed to deploying significant capital into Malaysia, where strong fundamentals align with our capabilities to deliver power and decarbonisation solutions to corporates and hyperscalers globally,” he said.
Solarvest, which has developed more than 2.3GW of solar photovoltaic capacity to date, will contribute its local development expertise and execution track record, while Brookfield brings global capital, corporate offtake relationships and operational know-how.
Solarvest Executive Director and Group CEO Datuk Davis Chong hailed the partnership as a milestone for Malaysia’s clean energy transition.
“By combining our expertise with Brookfield’s global strength, we are well-positioned to advance Malaysia’s decarbonisation agenda under the National Energy Transition Roadmap while expanding our regional footprint,” he said.
The partnership is expected to strengthen Malaysia’s energy security, drive renewable energy adoption and contribute to ASEAN’s broader carbon neutrality ambitions.
