Thailand’s newly appointed Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has confirmed his attendance at the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to 28, marking his first official state visit to Malaysia since assuming office.
The visit comes at a pivotal time for Thailand, following a recent political transition that saw Anutin succeed former Prime Minister Paetongtharn Shinawatra after a period of domestic political uncertainty.
The 47th ASEAN Summit is shaping up to be one of the most high-profile regional gatherings in recent years, with heads of government from across Southeast Asia and key global partners confirming their attendance. Notably, the summit will also mark the first visit to Malaysia by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, signaling heightened international interest in ASEAN’s role as a strategic and economic hub in the Indo-Pacific region.
Security has been tightened in the capital ahead of the event, with road closures and movement restrictions expected around the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) and major hotel zones hosting delegations. The Malaysian government has assured the public that measures are in place to ensure smooth proceedings and minimal disruption.
The 47th ASEAN Summit is expected to address key issues including regional economic recovery, digital transformation, climate resilience, and geopolitical stability in the broader Indo-Pacific region.
